गूगल ने रविवार काे सरला ठकराल को उनके 107वें जन्‍मदिन पर डूडल बनाकर याद किया। सरला देश की पहली महिला पायलट थीं। इस डूडल में एक महिला को दिखाया गया है। वह हवाई जहाज उड़ाती दिख रही है। इस डूडल का डिजाइन वृंदा जवेरी ने बनाया है। ठकराल एविएशन सेक्‍टर में करियर बनाने वाली महिलाओं के लिए प्रेरणास्रोत रही हैं। यही कारण है कि अमेरिकी टेक्‍नोलॉजी कंपनी ने उनके सम्‍मान में डूडल बनाने का फैसला लिया।

सरला का जन्‍म 8 अगस्‍त, 1914 को दिल्‍ली में हुआ था। बाद में वह लाहौर में शिफ्ट हो गई थीं। 1936 में 21 साल की उम्र में उन्‍हें एविएशन पायलट लाइसेंस मिल गया था। वह शानदार पायलट होने के साथ बेहतरीन डिजाइनर और उद्यमी भी थीं। उनके पति पीडी शर्मा एयरमेल पायलट थे। बताया जाता है कि उनकी ससुराल में करीब 9 लोग हवाई जहाज उड़ा लेते थे। उन्‍हीं से सरला को पायलट बनने की प्रेरणा मिली।

21 साल की उम्र में सरला ने जिप्‍सी मॉथ नाम का दो सीटर एयरक्राफ्ट उड़ाया था। इस दौरान उन्‍होंने पारंपरिक साड़ी पहन रखी थी। थी। जोधपुर फ्लाइंग क्‍लब में उन्‍होंने विमान उड़ाने की ट्रेनिंग ली थी। 16 साल की उम्र में पीडी शर्मा से सरला की शादी हुई थी। पायलट बनने में सरला को पति का भरपूर सहयोग मिला।

South-east Queensland's lockdown has ended, but residents in another part of the state are just starting theirs.

At 4:00pm, Cairns and Yarrabah — where a taxi driver has tested positive to COVID-19 — went into a three-day lockdown to curb the spread of the Delta variant.

That means there are new restrictions depending on where you live, and health authorities are urging people to check which rules apply to them.

None of these rules apply to people under home quarantine directives. They are not allowed to leave their home or have visitors during the  quarantine period.

Here's what you need to know, starting with the south-east.

Restrictions lift in the south-east:

If you're in one of the 11 local government areas that has been subject to the past week's lockdown, you now face fewer restrictions.

Those LGAs are:

• Brisbane
• Ipswich
• Logan City
• Moreton Bay
• Redlands
• Sunshine Coast
• Gold Coast
• Noosa
• Somerset
• Lockyer Valley
• Scenic Rim

Not all the restrictions have lifted. Masks still need to be worn at all times, unless you're out walking by yourself or with your household. You do need to wear a mask at work and when you're going to cafes and restaurants, except when you're seated.

Brittney Griner dominates, U.S. women run golden hoops streak to seven

Brittney Griner played very much like one of the best players on the planet Sunday, scoring 30 points to lead the U.S's women's basketball team to its seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal with a 90-75 victory over host Japan at Saitama Super Arena.

U.S. veteran superstars Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, who made their Olympic debuts together in 2004, together passed American legends Lisa Leslie, Tamika Catchingsand Teresa Edwards as the women's game's all-time leaders in Olympic gold medals with five.

"Couldn't have had a better ending," Bird said in a postgame interview, then nodded toward Taurasi, her longtime national team running mate. "And I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else. ... I love you, homie!"

Breanna Stewart had a terrific all-court game for the U.S. with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go with five steals, five assists and three blocked shots..

Griner's 10 first-quarter points made clear the path to gold would go through her on both ends of the floor. A 6-foot-9, two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, Griner, 30, altered a number of inside shots early, and Japan's forays into the paint grew less aggressive and frequent as the game wore on.

Up nine (23-14) after the first, the U.S. pushed its pad as high as 14 in the second quarter and hit halftime up 50-39. A breakaway layup from Bird, who is 40 and Sunday became the women's game's oldest Olympic gold medalist, put the winners up by more than 20 midway through the third quarter, and Japan never threatened thereafter.

The game itself even represented an history: The U.S. and Japan were the first countries in history to face each other in Olympic women's basketball, Japan winning that preliminary game at Montreal 1976. The U.S. bounced back to eventually claim silver.

Daughter of rock star Bruce and singer-songwriter Patti Scialfa, Springsteen made herOlympic debut at this year's Tokyo Games.

The equestrian said she called her family after medaling alongside her teammates Laura Kraut and McLain Ward. 

"I FaceTimed them really quick. They were all screaming, I don't think we understood anything," she said. 

"Just saw their team USA gear; there was just lots of shouting. I couldn't make a lot out but I know that they're so excited."

Port Adelaide defeats Adelaide Crows by four points in Showdown 50

Port Adelaide are third on the AFL ladder after surviving a scare from the Adelaide Crows to win Showdown 50 by four points.

Aliir Aliir, who won the Showdown medal for best on ground, said the team was pleased they could win a tough game.

"We didn't really turn up in the first half but we got the chocolates in the end," he told Fox Footy.

"You want to come out and play well every week, we know sometimes it doesn't happen. As long as you're winning it doesn't matter."
